Named Na Leo Lani Director in February 2018, Wiwik Bunjamin-Mau brings a wide range of choral experience to the chorus. Growing up in Indonesia, she began singing in choirs in the 5th grade and explored a variety of musical genres during her school years. Currently, she is a student of Debra Lynnʻs Bel Canto Certification Coaching Program.
Wiwik is a well-known and respected member of the Oahu barbershop community. She has sung with both Na Leo Lani and Honolulu Blend choruses and women’s quartets. She has competed with the San Diego Chorus at Sweet Adelines International competition. Her late husband, Noel Mau, was a long time member of the Sounds of Aloha men’s barbershop chorus. The couple have been vital supporters of the musical arts in Hawaii.
Wiwik brings breadth of experience, knowledge, and a love of barbershop harmony to Na Leo Lani.
I am very excited to be directing the Na Leo Lani chorus. They have been a singing “home” for me and I am thrilled to have this opportunity to work with these energetic ladies who really enjoy singing the a cappella style. I look forward to exploring diverse music, while paying homage to the Hawaiian heritage. I am also a strong advocate for women’s causes and plan to use music to address important issues.
Music should connect, uplift, and empower the singers and the people around them.
