Mahalo Concert
September marked the start of a busy season of rehearsals and events for Na Leo Lani, beginning with a Mahalo Concert at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church (ORLC) to thank the congregation for so generously granting us the use of two of their classrooms throughout spring and summer 2022.
ORLC opened its doors to our chorus at a time when few other venues on O’ahu were permitting group gatherings. After nearly two years (!) of online-only rehearsals, we were finally able to practice together — live and in-person, just in time for us to prepare for our regional Sweet Adelines International competition in May. We moved our rehearsals down the street in July to a larger space at the Mo’ili’ili Hongwanji, but we remain forever appreciative to ORLC for giving us a “home” at a crucial time.
Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts to Pastor Christian Rasmussen, Administrative Assistant Faith Dubke, Music Director Karl D. Bachman, and the congregants of ORLC!
And thanks again for the surprise gift of the altar floral arrangement to our President — she was so happy to take the flowers for hakamairi at her family’s plot on the Windward side.

Anthems Afterglow
On August 15, Na Leo Lani sang the Star Spangled Banner and Hawaiʻi Ponoʻī at Ala Moana Hotel as part of the opening ceremony of the 2022 training conference of the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs. It was a brisk but enjoyable performance — made even better by our afterglow breakfast at Liliha Bakery.

Performing the anthems!
Na Leo Lani Chorus was thrilled to perform the Star Spangled Banner and Hawaiʻi Ponoʻī for the Diamond Head Classic Basketball Tournament at UH Manoa on December 22, 2021. Watch our video below and sing along with us!
For the tournament opener between Northern Iowa University and Liberty University, we sang the Star Spangled Banner and Hawaiʻi Ponoʻī.
Singing & raising funds for the Hawaii Theatre — December 2021
Na Leo Lani had the pleasure of participating in the Sounds of Aloha chorus’s special 2021 fundraiser for the historic Hawai’i Theatre in downtown Honolulu on December 5, 2021. The “Songs of the Season” concert benefitted the Hawai‘i Theatre Center, the non-profit organization behind the survival of this cultural landmark. In addition to Na Leo Lani’s performance of “Little Drummer Boy,” the Sounds of Aloha entertained the live streaming audience with their holiday arrangements, joined by six quartets and small ensembles.

Holiday Greetings 2021
In Fall 2021, Na Leo Lani brushed up on one of our favorite holiday tunes, “Silent Night,” in preparation for a musical Christmas card featuring our virtual harmonies. The lyrics in English, Japanese, and Hawaiian and charming presentation by video editor Randy Sahae reflects our members’ multicultural heritage and love for the islands we call home.

Music and lyrics by Joseph Mohr and Franz Xaver Gruber, acapella arrangement by Arlene Fox, video-editing by Randy Sahae.
Hawaiian Lullaby – Videorecording 2021
Enjoy our April 2021 virtual chorus performance of Hawaiian Lullaby under the direction of Christine Wee. Recorded with permission from the composer Hector Venegas and arranger Arlene Fox. Special thanks to our amazing video editor, Randy Sahae!
O’ahu’s barbershop choruses in concert – Virtual Performance 2020
In Summer 2020, Honolulu’s three barbershop choruses — Na Leo Lani, the Sounds of Aloha Chorus, and Honolulu Blend Show Chorus — embraced the challenge of learning a brand-new song only via Zoom! The finished product is a lively blend of male and female voices joined together in splendid harmony. Enjoy our performance of “If There’s Anybody Here From Out of Town.”
No Na Wahine Festival, February 29, 2020
Just before the pandemic hit in March 2020 and singing together was put on hold, we had the pleasure of participating in the No Na Wahine Festival with a dozen other women’s choruses from across O’ahu. Listen to our joyful performance of Sha Boom Sha Boom, If I Give My Heart to You, and Hawaiian Lullaby in the beautiful sanctuary of Sacred Hearts Academy, featuring NLL President, Dana Taylor, and directed by Christine Wee. Little did we know that it would be the last time we would sing together — or even see some of our chorus members again! — for two years.
Forty-five years of Na Leo Lani!
In August 2020, Na Leo Lani celebrated its 45th anniversary with a virtual birthday bash attended by friends from around the world. We had a slideshow of photos and memorabilia from our first four and a half decades, plus a live fashion parade of some of the many elegant costumes we have performed in over the years.
Mahalo to all who joined us. It’s been a great 45 years! Looking ahead to what the next few years will bring!

Highlights from December 2019
Na Leo Lani sang holiday cheer in the Honolulu area. We believe in reaching out to the community with the joy of four-part harmony.
