Harmonizing again

Na Leo Lani has begun rehearsing in person again! For the past several weeks, our singers have been gathering for special weekend rehearsals on the front lanai of Director Christine Wee’s house in preparation for a live recording in support of the Hawai’i Theatre. The recording will be part of a benefit concert organized by the Sounds of Aloha Chorus, and will feature SOA, multiple quartet performances, and a special guest performance by Na Leo Lani. Stay tuned for details about when the benefit concert will be aired and how to watch.

In the meantime, here’s what live rehearsals look like in November in Hawai’i — masked up and in the open air:

Masked but marvelous — baris and basses hard at work.
Leads and basses, mostly off-paper!

Our last rehearsal before lockdown

This video from our chorus rehearsal on February 19, 2020 was just supposed to help us gauge our progress on “If I Give My Heart To You,” a song we were intending to sing in competition. Now it is rare footage. Because of the pandemic, we haven’t been able to sing together in person since March 2020. Instead, we have adapted and carried on by gathering on Zoom every week for our Tuesday night rehearsals. Despite the difficulties that Zoom poses to harmonizing, our virtual get-togethers make sure we keep learning new tunes, practice old ones, and keep our voices in good shape! Most important of all, we are staying connected. Come join us!
