We had a fabulous experience last weekend performing for friends and family as a final preparation for our Region 12 Contest this weekend in Sparks, Nevada. As you can see from the photos below, a good time was had by all as we sang for our nearest and dearest. Everyone was wonderfully enthusiastic and supportive, which made us in turn sing our best. Thank you!
Special thanks to Mark Conching for his warm and insightful coaching, Adam LeFebvre for serving as our Friends and Family event emcee, Suzanne Chun-Oakland from the Lanakila Senior Center, where the event was held, and also to the marvelous Emma at the Mōʻiliʻili Hongwanji, where we rehearse every week.
Our Na Leo Lani singers are currently en route to Nevada for this weekend’s big event. Safe travels, ladies! Break a lip and put on a great show!
Sporting our favorite blue chiffon, we sang like angels!
We had a super productive coaching session with Mark Conching this week as part of our preparation for our Sweet Adelines International Region 12 contest in Reno next month.
Mark was wearing his Honolulu Marathon finishers shirt, which felt appropriate, because preparing for contest really is a marathon, not a sprint!
Practice, practice, practice is key to getting that blend of barbershop harmony just right. Thank you so much, Mark, for holding us to account and for supporting our director, Chris, with your insights.
And wow, NLL ladies! You worked hard and it shows! 🎶❤️!
What a tremendous experience it was to return to the Region 12 Convention in Sparks, Nevada, after seven long years! Adjusting to the high elevation and chilly temperatures wasn’t easy, but we were bowled over by the beauty of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains, the cameraderie and supportiveness of our sister choruses, and the sheer joy of singing with so many Sweet Adelines in one place.
As you can tell from the photos (below), we gave it our all and had a blast singing with and watching the other contestants, as well.
Congratulations to all of this year’s contest performers, including the winning quartet, Equilibrium, from Emerald Valley Chorus in Springfield, Oregon!
Log on to the SAI Region 12 website HERE to watch all of the performances via video on demand from now through May 12.

SAI Pacific Shores Region 12 Contest April 19-20, 2024
It’s coming soon! This weekend, April 19-20, Na Leo Lani will be joining the rest of the Pacific Shores region choruses in Reno, Nevada, for the 2024 Sweet Adelines International Region 12 competition. Be a part of the excitement by signing on for the livestream of our performance, or watch the recording afterward when it suits your schedule. To see the convention program, go to the Region 12 website, here.
After months of rehearsals and many challenges along the way, we sailed through our competition recording yesterday with full-throated joy. What a journey it has been!
Thank you so much to our director, Christine Wee; to the Region 12 recording team of Mary Mamer, Donna Prochazka, Randy Sahae, and Joanna Davis, who flew all the way out to Hawai’i for a quick, 48-hour whirlwind of lights, camera, and action; to the men of Sounds of Aloha who volunteered hours of their day to assist with the event; and to our Vice-President, Kristi Dagdagan, who organized an elegant and bounteous Afterglow. Each of you was masterful in your attention to detail, planning, and performance. Our kids, too, rose to the occasion, tirelessly putting in hours of work to set up and clean up the party. The delicious food and beautiful setting of the Afterglow made for the perfect ending to our 2022 contest experience.
Most of all, thank you to our amazing chorus members, who stayed together through two and half long years of Zoom rehearsals, masked rehearsals, and rehearsals in unusual and less than ideal settings. As the lyrics of one of our contest songs goes, “There is a feeling deep in my heart . . . It’s a feeling heavenly!” Uniting in harmony truly is heavenly. Thanks, ladies, for making it happen.
