Our Music & Mistletoe is Underway!

And we’re off to the start of our 2026 Music & Mistletoe holiday singing program! We welcomed 7 guests with open arms and warm hearts to our rehearsals so far, some of whom have never sung in a group setting before. All of them are so talented, and we cannot wait to welcome them back! As we starting dusting off our holiday decorations and prepare to sing our holiday songs, we are once again reminded of what this timeof year is all about: music, love, friendship, and connection.

Looking to join an amazing a capella singing chorus for the holidays, but don’t know how to start? Starting from Oct 14, we begin the Music & Mistletoe Program! This is a FREE program for women who want to sing with us for the holiday season. From Oct 14 – Dec 20, the “M&M” singers will get to learn 2 holiday songs and 3 sing-alongs in the a capella barbershop style! You can then be able to join us for our holiday show (Dec. 12) and 2 other community performances (Dec 19 & 20). Our rehearsals go from 6-9 p.m, but the “M&M” singers will only need to attend from 6-7:30 p.m. Interested? Come check us out! Even if you can’t make it this Wednesday, you can still join us next Wednesday!

Come on down to the Lanakila Senior Center on Saturday, May 9, as we strut our stuff and showcase our performance package ahead of our departure for the 2026 Sweet Adelines Region 12 Contest in Nevada!

This free event is a fun opportunity to hear barbershop harmonies live and in concert!

What: Na Leo Lani Friends and Family Event

When: Saturday, May 9, 1:00 p.m.

Where: Lanakila Senior Center, 1640 Lanakila Avenue, Honolulu

Parking: free — park in the lot. Street parking also available

Continuing a tradition we began during the pandemic to keep things lively and ourselves amused in our online Zoom rehearsals, Na Leo Lani marks every rehearsal with a different theme. Not everyone participates every time, but that’s okay, because there’s a theme week for everyone — like “National Big Wig Day” on January 30!

According to this recent article in The Conversation, the health benefits of collective singing go well beyond mere entertainment; it can help reinforce balance and even mitigate the effects of Parkinson’s! What’s more, the social benefits extend to enhanced sense of community engagement, generosity, and joy. The author writes, “Group singing provides a mood boost and improves overall well-being. Increased levels of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin during singing may promote feelings of social connection and bonding.”

Who couldn’t use a mood boost in these difficult times? Come join a rehearsal and feel the energy for yourself.

Na Leo Lani brought our best Magic Kingdom energy to rehearsal last week with a big helping of rainbows, and we marked Pam’s September birthday with a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday — and MANY MORE! The belated honor made it all the more special. 😉

NLL marks Veterans’ Day

The ladies of Na Leo Lani never let a holiday go by without marking it in a special way, and this year’s Veterans’ Day was no different! Rocking our best stars and stripes attire, we sang in remembrance of those who have fought and died defending the values of equality, humanity, and justice under law, and we sang in celebration of the millions of hardworking individuals from all corners of the planet who serve the U.S. with honor, both in military uniform and as essential workers who make our economy hum. As women of all races, ethnicities, and faiths, we know well that harmony begins with listening — and we honor that outlook every week with song.

It’s Autumn, and you know what that means — time to dust off your favorite holiday tunes and sing with Na Leo Lani in four-part barbershop harmony!

If you love choral singing and are looking for an opportunity to lift your spirits every week with a great group of women, we invite you to exercise your talent and build your vocal chops in our fun and festive Music and Mistletoe holiday program October 29 through December 23, 2025.

Open to all women and woman-identified singers age 16 and over, Music and Mistletoe is just $35 for eight weeks of weekly rehearsals, sheet music, and learning tracks for five holiday songs, topped off by our holiday concert and other festive singing gigs around the island.

Small but stalwart this week

We had a small but feisty rehearsal this week as a number of our members were out sick, including our Director, Chris.

Those who felt up to it came on Wednesday masked and practiced social distancing as we continued preparing for our upcoming 50th anniversary celebration on August 23.
